Today is World Book Day, today my daughter chose to dress a dalmatian from 101 Dalmatians.
I wanted to do more for the dalmatian outfit like ears, but am currently laid up with a bad back so sitting sewing was too painful for too long. For this outfit I brought a white top and white canvas shoes from Primark for £3.00. I then used an old back top and chopped up for the dots, and sewed these on, Josie also has a tail on the reverse of the top. With the canvas shoes, I just used a sharpie permanent marker. I had plans to sew sock ears to a spare hairband, but instead had to make do with hair bunchies.
I try to find the time to try and make her outfits if I can, as I am a working mummy. Not only do they work out cheaper, but mainly I enjoy being creative. I picked out of the many nativity outfits and school plays, my top 2 outfits I have made.
My most favourite has to be her pirate outfit. I love all of the colours. The tutu was surprisingly easy to make. I tied some ribbon to 2 chair, as though to make a tightrope effect. Then you cut strips of netting and just tie them to the ribbon. I also added some bright colour ribbon for effect. Make sure leave ends of the ribbon so you can tie the tutu together round your waist. The top was an old one of mine, and left over material for the rest of the top and head scarf.
Superhero day last year, was the hype of Frozen still/ So when I asked Josie who did she want to be, answer was Elsa. So I made an Elsa Superhero outfit. I ordered some material of ebay. First I made the skirt from a blue satin type of material, then the top sequin material, I simply sewed onto a plain white top. The cape was some material of an old dressing up outfit that didn’t fit Josie anymore. This also went on to make last years tunic nativity outfit of villager number 1 🙂
I would love to see any posts of your outfits, wether made or brought…#WorldBookDay
