I recently come up with an idea looking at our unused built in wardrobe….my Own Little WorkSpace
One of the best ways to be productive is to have a decent workspace. You can have so many items, such as pictures, figures, photos to inspire your creativity.
At the flat whilst on maternity leave cooking Rowan, we made me a little space in the corner of the bedroom. This little space was the highlight of my little flat. All of my craft items, neatly in one place….my art supplies, stored descending size order…..my Pop Vinyls and other cute figurines on show….lovely pictures and postcards that I have been sent or collected, on show for inspiration. I made my space from an IKEA pink Kallax unit. This was great for storing, but you were unable to sit nicely like you would a desk. Currently since moving I am dotted round the house. My Planners were in with the slow cooker. Pens in the airdrome, notebooks in the kitchen. So I decided I need space to keep everything, but also so,we here I can go for some peace.
When we moved, I wanted matching bedside draws rather than my pink unit from before. There was nowhere else to put it either. We have lived in the house now for 6 months and while sitting on the bed, messaging my dear friend Estelle. I wondered about our built in wardrobe space. At the time there was a rail, housing a couple of thick jumpers, an old bedside cabinet and a box of old clothes. I wondered to myself, if I remove the doors could I make a workspace. I also wondered about under the stairs, but with a creative 7 year old and a getting to the terrible 2’s, 19month old, my colourful items would not be safe from prying, miniature sticky fingers.
Back to my wardrobe idea….I emptied the cupboard, pulled out the draws and through to myself (and confirming with Estelle) I could see a Pinterest style DIY project waiting to happen.
This was the Thursday lunch my super idea, by the weekend the rail and doors had been removed, and the painting had commenced. I used a grey paint From Dulux ‘Urban Obsession’. We originally brought this for the bedroom but decided the original idea of painting the whole room was too excessive. I had decided on white furniture to brighten from the colour. Whilst out in my new favourite shop B&M, I spotted the most stunning flamingo wallpaper and at only £8 a roll.
I measured the floor space and went mooching on Ikea website. I found a perfect sized desk with a draw ‘Micke’ which was a bargain of £39. And also brought shelves ‘Lack’, for the small alcove which will fit perfectly flush when these are up. I also brought a bigger shelf ‘Persby’ which was going above my desk, but I felt this took the flamingo effect away. So this will be going under the desk for storage, also there is still plenty of foot room.
I also have finishing touches to sort, which is an ongoing project. I have pale pink frames to make some inspirational quotes, wooden bunting which I will be painting. I have ordered Polaroids to hang with mini pegs. All of these I will feature on a workspace update.
One of my favourite items is from B&M, is my calendar block. I love all things shabby chic. I have ideas for this calendar for blog photos, but also handy knowing the date. Plus this really brightens the desk up. Added with a new pin board and some plastic plants for greenery, as I get severe hay fever.
I have filled my draw with notebooks, bullet Journal, pens, and calligraphy set so far. Maybe will sneak a pack of spearmint polos for nibbling purposes. I can’t wait to get my workspace finished, and all my pens and supplies neatly away. The desk will be perfect from when blogging, being creative or working for home. I was happy with my last workspace but this one is out of this world. The wallpaper (thanks mum for sorting) looks stunning against the grey, and my own workspace is so much better than I had hoped. Even better this hasn’t cost me too much as done on a budget. Some point I will look at flooring, I want to get some funky tiles for this, and lighting. But for now this is totally my happy little place.
Are you ready for the big reveal……I proudly present …..My Own Little WorkSpace
I still have a bit to go to finish this off, but am so happy the main part is done. What are your thoughts of my happy place? Have you done a similar DIY project. I would love for you to send me on Twitter or Instagram pictures of your workspace.
