The Art of The Book of Life

Art of The Book of Life

I originally spotted The Art of The Book of Life on Instagram. The Book of Life is one of my favourite films. I love anything to do with Day of The Dead and Sugarskulls (I am currently making my own Barbie ones) and when I seen the film with Josie, I loved all of the art behind the animation as well as the story and soundtrack.

Instantly I brought the book, unlike the books that teach you to draw the characters, these are a lot more in depth. They take you behind the scenes showing the making of the animation, as well as how the characters came to be designed. The pictures are beautifully illustrated and with having the book you can appreciate the detailed work that has gone in to creating this masterpiece. If you love the film you will love this book.

One of my favourite characters from the film is La Muerte, the kind ruler of the Land of The Remembered. I love the detail of the character, and seeing how they came up with different versions of the illustration is brilliant. The book states La Muerte was the hardest character to design.  You can also see other artists interpretations of the characters. Which I will try and get round to doing my own soon.

One of the most spectacular pieces of art in the film is La Muerte’s Palace and San Angel Church. Plus the costume details, Manolo is so delicately detailed, then when he visits The Land of the Remebered his character gets a skeleton look about him and again the detail is beautifully done.

overall the images in this book are breathtaking and would not disappoint any fan. This hardback version is 191 pages long, which for the amount of detail I think this is worth the money. Then when looking to buy this book I found a whole load of different titles. So far I have Big Hero 6  and Boxtrolls as again the artwork is beautifully illustrated. I will do a post on these books so you can see more pages inside these too. Next I want Art of Tangled and Inside Out.

Have you any of these book, or other titles of the same nature?
