I have been meaning to try the new craze of contouring for a while, but was undecided which product to try. While out at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol, I got talking to a lovely lady on the Clinique counter in Boots and asked for her to show me the product. Normally I hate this or anyone doing my make up, but was a brave bunny and asked for a demonstration for a contouring product, to which I was shown Clinique Chubby Contour Kit.
Originally I was looking at powder versions, but after seeing a segment on This Morning, I preferred the look of the cream versions. The Clinique Contouring Kit is ideal of you have not used one before like myself. As a lover of chubby sticks (you can see previous post here) which I have an impressive collection for eyes and lips, the contouring version looked easy to use. As stick form you can apply easier where needed. When I went shopping there was a promotion on for the new Clinique Chubby In The Nude Foundation Stick with your contouring kit. I was told ‘Capricious Chamois’ was the ideal colour for my skin. I normally use the Moisture Surge Foundation which is an excellent coverage but can feel heavy on my skin. The Chubby Foundation Stick blew me away with the coverage. You use hardly any product and it is so light on your skin, but the coverage is on the same par as a liquid foundation. Sometimes if in a rush or just popping down to the shops, I will quickly use this to cover any blemishes. I simply do a few lines around my face then use the Clinique Foundation Buff Brush (which is awesome!) to blend all in.
When using the contouring kit, first I apply concealer and foundation, I then use the darker chubby stick. Don’t be afraid of this on first use, as it will look like you are face painting a tiger on yourself, but these do blend in beautifully. I so a line just under each cheek bone, and down the outsides of my nose. Sometimes I also go down the side edge of my face, along my hairline. Then using the buffer, blend all in. If I am off out and want more make up than normal you can apply this all again, or build it up as you go. The more you play with the kit, the more you will feel confident in doing your own style. I then use my favourite part of the kit, the highlighter chubby stick. I again use this sometimes when not adding much make up as the glow makes you look radiant. I do a line of this down the middle of my nose, centre of forehead, above my cheek bones, and a dot on my upper lip and chin. Again blend with the buffer brush, and top up if needed.
Next I apply a blusher. From seeing on This Morning the contouring segment, I tried the advice they gave. If using powder products use a powder blusher, if cream products like the Clinique Chubby Contour Kit then use a cream blusher. I have never used one before but now I have braved trying one, I would not go back to powder ones. I love my cream blusher, which I got from Max Factor –Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Soft Pink. This again gives your skin a lovely radiant glow. To set the make up I use another of my favourite products which my pot is still going after over a year, Clinique Blended Face Powder.
The above picture is after I have used the kit on a normal day, so you can see the coverage, the lighting doesn’t do the highlighting justice. Plus I had a cold when done this. I personally prefer to go for a blended look on myself, rather than harsh contouring look. Simply the only advice I can give is just sit down and have a play with the kit if you do purchase this or have similar and don’t be afraid. The look is determined by the blending. I find compared to the old routine I had, of foundation and bronzer, this gives me a longer lasting and more radiant look, without feeling too heavy or oily.
Have you tried a contouring kit you can recommend?
